softwood hearts

decorative softwood heart These nest hearts are held together with fishing line for a poetic, aerial effect. Whether using hazelnut wood, string or wire, you can craft each heart to suit your taste, with whatever materials are available.

To create a heart from hazelnut branches, take two branches and line up the more flexible ends side-by-side, so they are parallel to each other. Set them with a clamp or place under a weight. Then join the other two ends by crossing them, as shown. Set with a clamp or a weight. Leave this way for one night, or attach the intersecting branches with transparent fishing line.

wood heart shape Make additional hearts with wire, using the template. Decorate the hearts with twisted string then hang each heart using fishing line. To put your new decoration on display, hang with ribbon, string or a strip of thick fabric. Place a fresh flower in the center for a final touch.
