linen ornaments

linen holiday ornament Fabric ornaments - especially when made of linen - look particularly natural and organic. They will create a warm, refined style in your home hanging from a tree branch, or against a wood-paneled wall.

Copy one of the patterns below - tree, star or heart - onto a doubled-up piece of linen. Sew by hand or using a machine, without forgetting to add a loop to hang it from. For the loop, a piece of ribbon about 15 cm (6 in) long and folded in half will do. There is no need to turn the fabric inside out because the extra fabric around the edge is what makes the ornament so charming.

linen christmas hanging Embroider a few long stitches on the front to emphasize the ornament's shape. Here, the star was embroidered with some peach-colored knitting tulle. Fray the edges with a needle and trim with scissors, if needed, for a nice fringe.

A variety of materials can be used to stuff these little ornaments - kapok, cotton, semolina, wheat chaff, leftover yarn... Try adding some star anise or orange rind for a nice holiday touch. Sew closed with a few invisible stitches.
